DEFENSIVE LINE

Coach Lawton joins the Wrecker Football family after a storied coaching career with stops at UMASS Amherst, Daniel Hand, Xavier, Bacon Academy, Westwood (Massachusetts), Framingham South (Massachusetts), and Newton North (Massachusetts).

Coach Lawton will be tasked with leading the Defensive Line for Staples as he embarks on his 40th year as a football coach. Coach Lawton is a native of Massachusetts and played high school football at Boston College High School and Belmont High. Upon graduation, Coach Lawton joined the US Army, was stationed in Germany, and played semi-professional football for the Hanau Hawks in Hanau, Germany. Coach Lawton lives a life committed to service, having worked for the Pittsburgh Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

From 2016 to 2021, Coach Lawton served as an assistant coach at Daniel Hand High School in Madison, CT. During that time, Daniel Hand’s varsity team won two State Championships. In 2021, Coach Lawton was hired as the Defensive Line and Running Backs coach at Xavier High School where he coached DJ Wright, a 1000-yard rusher named to the New Haven Register All-SCC Team.  Wright is currently playing football at Union College.  That season Xavier had its first winning record in 4 years. Recently, he was the Assistant Head Coach at Bacon Academy High. As of the 2022 season, the Bacon Academy team had not won a game in three years.  Although that team only won a single game during the 2022 season, Coach Lawton believes it will always be one of the most important and impactful games he’s ever coached in.
