Matty Jacowleff

ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH, OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR, WIDE RECEIVERS, DEFENSIVE BACKS, HEAD JV COACH

Coach Jacowleff serves as the Associate Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator and is directly responsible for the Wide Receivers and Defensive Backs. In 2022, Coach Matty was the recipient of the FCIAC Assistant Coach of the Year Award and has won three State Championships as a coach. In both 2022 and 2021, the Wrecker Wide Receivers broke the Staples High School records for most receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in a single season. In 2022 and 2023 Staples lead the FCIAC in receiving yards. In 2022 the Wreckers lead the State in receiving yards. In 2023, the Wrecker Defensive Backs had a historic season, allowing just a 49% completion percentage, offenses averaged only 131 passing yards per game with 10 TD against a State-Leading 21 INTs. In the last three seasons, the Wreckers have scored 74 touchdowns through the air and only let up 27 passing touchdowns while picking off 44 passes. The 44 interceptions are the most in the State in the three-year-span. Three Staples Football Wide Receiver Alumni are currently on Division 1 FBS rosters at Syracuse University, Wake Forest University and the University of Michigan.

Under Coach Matty’s tutelage, the Wrecker receiving books have been completely rewritten. The top three receiving yards seasons are now held by Tyler Clark (2022), James Hillhouse (2022) and Nick Armentano (2021). The top two receptions in a season are now held by Tyler Clark (2022) and James Hillhouse (2022). The most receiving yards in a career are held by Nick Armentano (2021) and Tyler Clark (2022). The most receptions in a career are held by Nick Armentano (2021) and Tyler Clark (2022). The most catches in a single game is now owned by Tyler Clark (2022). Coach Matty has coached 18 WR/DBs to the All-FCIAC rosters in the past three seasons. In 2023, both of the Wreckers’ Safeties (Sam Petrosino and Max Maurillo) were named to the Connecticut All-State team. In 2022, Staples Football was the first team in the history of the Award to have two WRs from the same team named to the Walter Camp Connecticut Team with Tyler Clark and James Hillhouse receiving the honor. With an intent on developing well rounded leaders, Coach MJ is proud that Staples Football has sent five graduates to West Point United States Military Academy in the past three years. Coach Matty is also a Varsity coach with the back-to-back State Champion Staples Lacrosse Program.

Coach Matty is a Staples High School Alumni, where he played Linebacker for the Wreckers and was Captain of the 2014 team. After High School, Coach Matty obtained a Business degree from Northeastern University. Coach Matty resides in Westport and works at Staples High School in a variety of roles as he finishes up his Master’s in Education from Fairfield University and is the father to his English Bulldog aptly named Blitz.
